Worldwide Zoo Consultants (WZC) is a global leader in the creation, development, and management of a wide variety of specialized animal facilities and projects such as, Zoological Parks, Public Aquariums, Living Museums and immersive Animal-based Education Centres.

WZC is continuing to grow and expand its team and is looking to recruit an Aviculture Manager Responsible for management of the avian department and the overall daily operations. Regular communication with the aviculture staff is essential. Monitor dietary habits of the birds, and work to develop new diets. Aiming to balance the collection to maximize reproduction, using your in-depth knowledge of birds to develop and manage breeding programs.

  • Promote the mission of Worldwide Zoo Consultants as directed by the Managing Director
  • Coordinate and manage the animals on the assigned Projects
  • Highly motivated and demonstrate a proactive, engaging management approach.
  • Works closely with the facility development team regarding management of technical requirements are adhered to. Ensures contracted services are completed as required for ongoing maintenance and repairs for the facility and exhibits.
  • Oversee the acquisition, storage, inventory and procedural use of equipment used for animal acquisition, transport and procedures.
  • Assist with the development and provide on-site assistance of new facilities and projects, both internally and externally with other companies.
  • Manage and train staff on the breeding requirements of the animals on the Project
  • Train aviculture team on safe handling and restraint of birds.
  • Monitor the health of the animals and ensure all animals under the Company’s care.
  • Assist in development and implementation of operational procedures to insure human and animal safety.
  • Maintain animal record logs relating to behavioral and medical conditions of the animals as well as recording all conditioning.
  • Develop improved practices in feeding, housing, sanitation, parasite, and disease control of animals.
  • Oversee scheduling and tracking of Aviculture team time and assignments, order animal food, equipment, and products for use by animal care staff.
  • Work closely with the Veterinary Manager to develop and employ sound medical programs for the animal collection, including diet formulation, preventative medicine, testing, quarantine, and health care.
  • With the assistance of the Animal Husbandry Manager, oversee the maintenance team to keep exhibits, support equipment and workspaces well maintained as well as ancillary tasks associated with operating a breeding facility.
  • Workplace will be dependent upon the company’s projects and some travel outside of the UAE may be required.
  • 10 years Aviculture experience, 5 of which at a management level or Curator of Birds
  • Project management and safe work principles and practices
  • Experience with animal collections and their management
  • Substantial experience in the care, feeding, husbandry and breeding of birds
  • Experience in the treatment of sick and injured birds including euthanasia
  • An enthusiastic approach and a desire to pass on that enthusiasm to others
  • Skills in assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks and demands
  • Ability to organize and complete projects in a timely manner, using initiative and proper professional judgment; ability to work independently and as a team
  • Skills in identifying and recommending solutions to problems
  • Strong oral and proficient written communication skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with co-workers
  • Proficiency and experience with Microsoft Office products
